ILOILO CITY — About 20 students at Jamindan National High School suffered dizziness and discomfort Tuesday morning following a suspected case of mass hysteria triggered by a fight between two classmates.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. after a physical altercation broke out between two minor students inside the school, according to Police Major Jaypee Silvestre, officer-in-charge of the Jamindan Municipal Police Station.

Police identified those involved as a 14-year-old Grade 8 student and a 16-year-old Grade 9 student.

Silvestre said the confrontation caused panic among nearby students, which allegedly triggered mass hysteria.

Several students subsequently reported feeling unwell and experiencing dizziness.

School personnel and emergency responders provided medical assistance to the affected students, all of whom received prompt care.

The two minors involved in the altercation were taken to the Jamindan Municipal Police Station’s Women and Children Protection Desk for appropriate intervention.

Classes at Jamindan National High School were suspended Tuesday as officials assessed the situation and worked to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Police and school administrators are continuing to investigate the cause of the underlying dispute.
