  • The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 1 has provided road safety and traffic law orientation to future Philippine Coast Guard personnel, reinforcing the importance of discipline, responsible driving, and compliance with traffic regulations among uniformed service members.

A total of 243 female trainees from the Coast Guard Non-Officers' Course (CGNOC) Class 121-2026 attended the seminar at the Regional Training Center of the Coast Guard Education, Training and Doctrine Command (CGETDC) in Poro, San Fernando City, La Union. The activity was also attended by 52 personnel from the Regional Training Center.

According to LTO Region 1, the seminar forms part of its continuing road safety advocacy aimed at equipping future uniformed personnel with knowledge of traffic laws, responsible driving practices, and road discipline.

The CGETDC Regional Training Center serves as the country's training facility for female Coast Guard non-officer applicants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Lt. Commander Charibel Samera, director of the Coast Guard Regional Training Center-La Union, underscored the value of road safety education in developing disciplined and responsible public servants.

She said Coast Guard personnel are expected to comply with traffic laws and exhibit responsible behavior both on and off duty, adding that the knowledge gained from the seminar will be essential throughout their careers, particularly when operating government vehicles, responding to emergencies, and engaging with motorists and local communities.

The seminar also highlighted the Philippine Coast Guard's expanding responsibilities in disaster response, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, and other emergency operations where safe and lawful travel on public roads is critical.

Participants received lectures on key provisions of Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, Republic Act No. 10930, which strengthened the country's driver's license system, and other traffic laws enforced by the LTO.

LTO Region 1 personnel Ariel Paolo Tejada served as the resource speaker, discussing traffic regulations, defensive driving techniques, responsible road use, and the shared responsibilities of motorists, pedestrians, and other road users in promoting road safety.

LTO Region 1 said the activity is part of its sustained efforts to strengthen road safety awareness and enhance collaboration with partner government agencies in support of safer roads and more responsive public service.
