The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed a desalinator unit that will provide clean and potable drinking water to the residents of Lubao, Pampanga on 3 September 2026.

According to the PCG, the desalination unit can provide more than 10,000 liters of clean and potable drinking water per day and would provide much needed water to the residents affected by flooding due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The said endeavor is in coordination with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Pampanga, assuring that the unit will be utilized properly and would be useful for the residents of Lubao.

"Ang maagap na pagtulong ng PCG sa apektadong komunidad ay alinsunod sa adhikain ng Bagong Pilipinas at Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) na programa ng PCG na makapagbigay ng mabilis at napapanahon pagtulong sa bawat Pilipino," the PCG stated.

Floods contaminate drinking water supplies with sewage, dangerous chemicals, and harmful bacteria, leading to severe health risks.

A desalination unit is an integrated system that turns salty seawater or brackish water into clean, drinkable fresh water using reverse osmosis (RO) or thermal evaporation.
