Authorities arrested a father and son in separate search warrant operations in Tuao, Cagayan, after recovering several unlicensed firearms and ammunition from their residences, police said.

The operations were conducted on the night of 27 July in Barangay Alabiao by the Police Intelligence Unit of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office, with assistance from other Philippine National Police units, for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The first operation targeted a 63-year-old suspect identified only by the alias "Benny." During the implementation of the search warrant, he voluntarily surrendered a .38 Special revolver without a serial number and a .357 Magnum revolver.

A search of his residence also led to the seizure of a 12-gauge shotgun, a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, 13 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition, and four rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition.

In a separate operation, authorities served a search warrant on his 34-year-old son, identified only by the alias "Rey." Police recovered three live rounds of 9mm ammunition from his residence.

The two suspects and the confiscated firearms and ammunition were brought to the Tuao Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. Charges for alleged violations of the firearms law are being prepared against them.

Police Regional Office 2 Director Brig. Gen. Mariano C. Rodriguez commended the operating units for the successful implementation of the search warrants.

He also urged the public to surrender unlicensed firearms to the nearest police station to avoid criminal liability, saying the Philippine National Police remains committed to curbing the illegal possession of firearms and maintaining peace and public safety in the Cagayan Valley region.
