To provide specialized healthcare services for migrant workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) inaugurated the first dedicated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Ward in Region 9 in Zamboanga City on 21 July 2026.

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Atty. Leo Hans Cacdac, DMW Undersecretary Atty. Bernard Olalia and Mayor Khymer Olaso led the inauguration of the new ward, underscoring the national government's commitment to advancing the welfare of OFWs.

Established through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Zamboanga Peninsula, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and ZCMC, the dedicated OFW Ward is designed to provide eligible OFWs with hospital accommodations and healthcare services during their medical treatment.

The project was funded by the national government, commenced construction in 2024 and is currently located on the fifth floor of ZCMC Tower 1 that also houses the Brain and Spine Department, Geriatic Care Unit, Infirmary and Department Rooms.

The establishment of this facility represents a significant step toward ensuring that OFWs in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi have access to dedicated medical care upon their return home.
