Two unlicensed firearms were voluntarily surrendered to authorities as part of the Philippine National Police's intensified campaign against loose firearms and the ongoing Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO), the 2nd Ilocos Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd ISPMFC) reported.

The 2nd ISPMFC said the surrender was facilitated by its personnel under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge PLT Arnel V. Gratuito, in coordination with the Banayoyo Municipal Police Station, Tagudin Municipal Police Station, PIT Ilocos Sur, Regional Intelligence Unit 1, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office.

The surrendered firearms consisted of a homemade caliber .22 revolver loaded with two live rounds of ammunition and a homemade 9mm revolver.

Police said the firearms were turned over by barangay officials after residents, who requested anonymity, voluntarily surrendered the weapons.

The firearms are now under the custody of the 2nd ISPMFC for proper documentation and disposition in accordance with established procedures.

Authorities said the voluntary surrender reflects the continuing cooperation between local communities and law enforcement agencies in curbing the proliferation of loose firearms and strengthening peace and public safety in Ilocos Sur.
