Police have rescued a 17-year-old domestic helper accused of stealing more than P2.31 million worth of jewelry and watches from an employer’s condominium unit, authorities said Sunday.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) labeled the minor a child in conflict with the law following a qualified theft complaint, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

The teenager worked as a stay-in domestic worker at the residence in Barangay Talayan.

Investigators said the theft was discovered after a witness spotted the minor leaving the employer’s room with a paper bag. When questioned, the teenager claimed the bag contained only clothes.

The witness alerted the homeowner, who confirmed that no permission had been granted to remove any items from the room. The homeowner’s live-in partner also denied authorizing the removal of any belongings.

During questioning, the minor admitted that the paper bag contained jewelry and watches taken without the owner’s knowledge or consent, police said.

Investigators also reviewed closed-circuit television footage that showed the teenager handing the paper bag to an unidentified person outside the condominium building, supporting the theft allegations.

Authorities said the stolen valuables, valued at P2.311 million, have not yet been recovered. Police recovered only a Redmi A2+ mobile phone during the initial operation.
