The municipal government of Itogon has imposed strict movement restrictions and established quarantine checkpoints following a suspected case of African swine fever (ASF) in Barangay Tuding.
Mayor Bernard S. Waclin issued an executive order directing authorities to implement measures aimed at containing the virus and protecting the municipality's swine industry from possible cross-contamination.
Under the order, the transport and movement of live pigs, fresh or frozen pork, and processed pork products originating from or passing through Barangay Tuding are prohibited.
The restriction also covers the movement of swine and pork products to other barangays in Itogon, neighboring municipalities, and Baguio City.
The Itogon Municipal Police Station has been instructed to establish quarantine checkpoints along strategic routes around Barangay Tuding.
Police personnel will inspect vehicles and individuals transporting swine or pork products and verify the required Veterinary Health Certificate and shipping permits issued by the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Authorities said any prohibited livestock or pork products intercepted at the checkpoints will be confiscated and disposed of by the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Local police have also been directed to coordinate with barangay officials and agricultural authorities to monitor the situation and immediately report any unusual pig deaths that may indicate the spread of ASF.
