The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered an immediate investigation and the filing of appropriate charges against a Taguig City police corporal accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.
PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police Station to expedite the inquiry and submit a formal report on the incident.
Nartatez also ordered the officer to be relieved of operational duties while the investigation is pending.
The directive follows instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to uphold professional standards and prioritize the protection of minors.
The investigation stems from a complaint against a corporal assigned to Taguig City Police Substation 4.
According to the victim’s mother, the incident occurred on 21 June when the officer allegedly touched her daughter’s face without consent and asked the child for a kiss, telling the girl she was “prettier than his wife.”
The mother reported that the child felt intimidated, uncomfortable and embarrassed by the encounter.
The officer now faces criminal charges for alleged violations of the Safe Spaces Act and the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. In addition to the criminal complaint, he is facing an administrative investigation for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
Nartatez condemned the incident, stressing that the organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct involving children. He stated that the case would be investigated thoroughly, impartially and in accordance with the law.
The PNP chief added that while the actions of one individual do not define the entire police organization, the force remains committed to strengthening discipline and public trust through swift and decisive action against those who violate their standards.
