The Philippine National Police has ordered a swift probe and possible charges against a Taguig City police corporal accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl, vowing a thorough, impartial investigation, child protection, and accountability in line with President Marcos Jr.’s directive.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered the immediate investigation and filing of appropriate charges against a Taguig City police corporal accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.
PNP Chief P/Gen. Nicolas Torre III directed the Southern Police District (SPD) and the Taguig City Police Station (CPS) to expedite the investigation and submit a report on the incident. He also ordered that the respondent remain off operational duties while the case is pending.
The move is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through the guidance of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, protect children and other vulnerable sectors, and ensure accountability for police officers who violate the law and public trust.
“This is unacceptable. We condemn any form of misconduct, especially those involving children. We will ensure that the case is investigated thoroughly, impartially, and in accordance with the law,” Torre said.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed against a police corporal assigned to Taguig City Police Substation 4.
According to the victim’s mother, the incident occurred on June 21 when the police officer allegedly caressed the face of her eight-year-old daughter without consent and asked for a kiss, saying she was prettier than his wife.
The girl reportedly felt intimidated, uncomfortable, and embarrassed by the incident.
The police corporal has been charged with alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, in relation to Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
He is also facing an administrative investigation for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer and has been relieved from his post pending the outcome of the proceedings.
“I have directed the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police to ensure that the respondent remains off operational duties while the case is being resolved,” Torre said.
“The actions of one individual do not define the entire organization. Every violation of our standards is taken seriously. We remain committed to strengthening discipline, professionalism, and public trust through swift and decisive action,” the PNP chief added.
