Sinusuportahan ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ang panukalang ipagbawal ang paggamit ng social media sa mga menor de edad.

Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni DICT Secretary Henry Aguda na mahalagang maisama sa panukala ang mahigpit na identity verification sa mga social media platform upang matiyak ang epektibong pagpapatupad ng pagbabawal sa mga menor de edad.

Muling naging sentro ng usapin ang panukalang social media ban para sa mga bata kasunod ng pamamaril sa isang paaralan sa Tacloban City, kung saan tatlong estudyante ang nasawi.
