Two powerful names in OPM are about to share the same spotlight. Alternative rock mainstays Sponge Cola and vocal powerhouse Gigi De Lana are teaming up for the very first time on a brand-new single, “Naghihilom,” arriving on 6 March across major streaming platforms alongside a music video debuting that same day.

The song, whose title speaks of healing, explores the tender, often unspoken stages that follow heartbreak. Rather than rushing toward closure, it lingers in the stillness of emotional wounds — acknowledging the hurt, tracing its roots, and allowing time to gently ease the weight.

Driven by Sponge Cola’s unmistakable alt-rock sound, the track builds gradually through layered instrumentals and a brooding arrangement. Within this atmospheric backdrop, De Lana steps in with a controlled yet stirring vocal performance, adding nuance and depth while maintaining the song’s delicate core.

The piece struck a chord instantly for De Lana, though its full emotional impact took time to unfold.

She recalls being struck by its intensity upon first listen. While she initially couldn’t grasp the entirety of its message, repeated plays allowed the song’s meaning to surface little by little, revealing a profound emotional gravity beneath its surface.

The collaboration itself proved just as meaningful. From their earliest discussions, De Lana describes feeling at ease — welcomed into a creative space free of pressure and full of positive energy. She shares that working with the band felt natural and inspiring, even joking that she didn’t want their sessions to end.

Frontman Yael Yuzon, meanwhile, hopes the song resonates deeply with listeners. His wish is simple: that audiences connect with it in their own way — whether that means holding on, letting go, or singing their hearts out. He also notes how effortlessly De Lana blended into the collaboration.

Adding to the excitement, the music video captures the song’s debut live performance at a major festival earlier this year, giving fans who were there a special first look — and preserving that electric moment on screen.

The partnership bridges generations of Filipino music fans. Sponge Cola, long celebrated for their emotionally charged rock anthems, join forces with De Lana, whose commanding vocals and strong digital presence have drawn a new wave of supporters. Together, they’re proving that when artistry and authenticity align, healing can sound this powerful.
