Four armed individuals were apprehended and several high-powered firearms were seized during a security operation in Barangay Bagsak, Talipao, Sulu, on Friday morning.
The operation was conducted by elements of the 41st Infantry Battalion following reports from residents about the presence of armed men in the area.
Arrested were Jesfar Ablahan Jarah, Abdel Naser Sumaidi, Ahamad Hamsarani and Kiram Muntanyo Sahiron.
Recovered from their possession were an M16 rifle and an M203 grenade launcher tube, both with defaced serial numbers; two M14 rifles; assorted ammunition and magazines; explosive rounds; load-bearing equipment; and communication devices.
The suspects were informed of their constitutional rights and later turned over, along with the seized firearms and other evidence, to the Talipao Municipal Police Station for documentation, investigation, and filing of appropriate charges.
Authorities said the operation was carried out with due regard for civilian safety and in accordance with existing laws and rules of engagement.
Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism.
“This successful operation reflects our troops’ vigilance and commitment to protecting our communities from armed threats,” Gumiran said, adding that security operations will be intensified in coordination with the Philippine National Police and local stakeholders to address loose firearms and prevent lawless activities.
