The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued a show cause order this Monday to the bus operator of a passenger bus that was involved in a road crash in Quezon province.

The incident occurred in the municipality of Gumaca last Friday, 20 February, which left a total of 25 passengers injured as the bus was said to have lost control due to mechanical trouble before colliding with a vehicle and tipping onto its side.

No casualties were reported as a result of the crash.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II noted that the agency will conduct its own investigation into what had truly happened leading up to the accident.

“We are conducting an investigation to establish the reason behind this unfortunate incident. Ito ba ay road worthiness issue, driver-related issue or other factors,” he said.

The LTFRB ordered the operator of the bus to submit a notarized explanation on why the department should not cancel the franchise of the operator and to appear in a hearing on 13 March.

Aside from ensuring that all conditions of the SCO will be followed as ordered, Mendoza also stated that they will be confirming if all the injured passengers would be properly compensated.
