PMA eyes more cadets as new buildings rise

BAGUIO CITY — Looking to accommodate a larger number of cadets in the coming years, the Philippine Military Academy is currently constructing additional buildings within its grounds as part of its expansion project.

Among the structures under construction is the Integrated Academic and Tactics Group Building. This facility will house the offices of the Headquarters Academic Group and the Headquarters Tactics Group. Once the new building is completed, various offices under the Academic Group will relocate to the new site. This move is intended to vacate Melchor Hall, which will then be repurposed as a dedicated learning space for the cadets.

According to PMA Public Information Officer Lt. Jesse Nestor Saludo, the current recruitment quota remains at 350 cadets. However, the academy plans to gradually increase this capacity until the total number of cadets reaches 3,000.

The school's decision to increase its quota is aimed at supporting the manpower requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. By expanding its facilities and intake, the academy intends to contribute more effectively to the growth of the national military force.

Army Recruitment Officer and Recruitment Coordinator for the Cordillera and Ilocos regions, Technical Sgt. Buddy Segundo, noted that while there is no current shortage of applicants, the recruitment process remains an annual requirement to maintain force levels.
