The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued a missing crew member of a fishing boat in the vicinity waters off Silanguin Island, Zambales, on Christmas Day.

According to the PCG, FBCA Gavin crew member Larry Tumalis boarded his small boat and departed from the mother boat to conduct fishing operations in the vicinity waters off Silanguin Island on 24 December.

FBCA Gavin later navigated to another fishing buoy, but when the vessel returned to Tumalis’ last known location, he was nowhere to be found. After two hours of searching, the crew decided to return to the area where Tumalis was last seen and wait until the next day to continue the search.
Despite continued efforts, the missing crew member was not located.
The PCG received the call on the morning of Christmas Day and immediately deployed the BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) to conduct search and rescue operations. At around 2:15pm, the PCG successfully located Tumalis.

Personnel from the Coast Guard Nursing Service and Coast Guard Medical Service, immediately rendered Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) and conducted a health assessment to ensure the overall well-being of the rescued crew member.

Thereafter, the crew of FBCA Gavin and the family of Tumalis were informed of his successful rescue and that he was found to be in good condition.
