Another battle won: Time names DiCaprio as Entertainer of the Year

Hollywood heavyweight Leonardo DiCaprio has added another feather to his already crowded cap. Time magazine recently announced that the Oscar-winning actor is its 2025 Entertainer of the Year, largely for his acclaimed performance in 'One Battle After Another,' filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson’s highest-grossing movie to date.

In the action-packed story, DiCaprio portrays a former revolutionary living in a fog of paranoia, whose quiet, fractured life is upended when his old rival (Sean Penn), returns after 16 years, triggering a chain of confrontations. His portrayal has not only drawn critical praise but has also fueled a growing awards-season buzz.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about how often there have been truly original story ideas like this, with no link to anything historical, no past characters, no genre, no vampires, no ghosts, no anything,” DiCaprio told Time magazine when asked what drew him to the role.

“It was somewhat risky for the studio to take this on, and what they’re banking on, I think, is the appeal of Paul’s storytelling and the sort of fierce originality of his process,” he added.

The accolades have been pouring in. DiCaprio recently earned a Critics Choice Award nomination, added to his National Board of Review win, a Desert Palm Achievement Award from the Palm Springs Film Festival, and honors from the Gotham Awards as well as the Los Angeles and New York Film Critics. 'One Battle After Another' itself is competing for Best Film at both the Globes and Critics Choice Awards, underscoring the film’s impact on audiences and critics alike.

For DiCaprio, the role marks a return to the kind of layered, high-risk characters he’s known for, mixing intensity, wit, and vulnerability in a story that defies easy categorization. Anderson’s vision, coupled with DiCaprio’s fearless performance, has struck a chord in Hollywood, reminding viewers why he remains one of the industry’s most magnetic stars.
