The Philippine National Police (PNP) has affirmed its commitment to justice following recent allegations of a “ghost flood-control project” in Davao Occidental, as disclosed by the Office of the President.

In a statement on Friday, PNP acting chief P/Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization takes the reports “with utmost seriousness” and is dedicated to ensuring that public funds are protected and those responsible are held accountable.

“Consistent with our mandate to uphold law and order, and following the Ombudsman’s filing of criminal information against those implicated, the PNP stands ready to serve the warrants of arrest once issued by the Court,” he stressed.

Nartatez emphasized that all actions will include strict observation of due process, human rights, and the presumption of innocence.

He also expressed the PNP’s full support for ongoing investigations by concerned government agencies, pledging assistance in evidence-gathering and other procedures necessary to uncover the truth and maintain public confidence in the justice system.

Nartatez encouraged citizens with knowledge of the case to come forward, underscoring that community cooperation is essential for transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of public resources.

“Transparency and community involvement are vital to ensuring accountability and protecting public resources,” he said.

The PNP chief then reaffirmed the force’s dedication to professional service, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption, promising service that is “fast, honest, and felt by the people.”

The Ombudsman has filed criminal information against those allegedly involved in the project, and the case is now pending before the courts.

Further, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the PNP to locate the involved contractors to guarantee their swift arrest once the warrants are issued.
