34 miners feared trapped in Itogon landslide; rescue efforts underway

ITOGON, Benguet — A landslide occurred at around 11:00 a.m. in Camp 1, Acupan, Virac, Itogon, Benguet, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), 30 miners were able to safely exit from the adit shortly after the incident. Verification and accounting for other individuals who may have been inside the tunnels are still ongoing.

Initial reports indicate that 34 miners are believed to be trapped underground. Search and rescue operations are currently underway, with disaster response teams on site conducting assessments and safety checks.

Authorities have not yet released additional details as the situation remains active and developing.
