Esteemed Filipina chef Margarita “Gaita” Fores, who died in Hong Kong last 11 February at the age of 65, got posthumous Michelin awards as three of her restaurants were honored under the Michelin Selected category.
The awarded restaurants are Lusso (Legazpi), Steak & Frice and Ramen Ron.
“Each of these establishments has been recognized for the quality of their cuisine, character of their dining experience and overall consistency,” Michelin Guide said of the 74 Selected restaurants: 62 in Manila and environs and 12 in Cebu.
Chef Gaita is survived by her only child, Amado, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of AF Hospitality Group, which now manages his mom’s restaurants and businesses, including a mano (Italian), Ramen Ron (Japanese ramen) and Steak & Frice (steakhouse), Lusso, Grace Park, Cibo and Margarita Signature Caterer.
