

On Friday 10 October, in response to a request from the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, the Government of Japan resolved to extend emergency relief assistance to the Philippines through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The assistance will include the provision of relief items such as tents, blankets, plastic sheets, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, and portable water purifiers, to support those affected by the recent earthquake.
It is the sincere hope of the Government of Japan that this emergency assistance will contribute to alleviating the hardship faced by the affected communities.

On 30 September, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu Province in the Philippines, resulting in significant human and material losses. According to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, as of September 30, the disaster has led to the deaths of 72 individuals, the evacuation of 6,925 people, and has affected approximately 670,000 persons.
