Looc, Occidental Mindoro – Various rocket debris bearing markings of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) were recovered by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) along the shoreline of Sitio Gunting, Barangay Bonbon, in this town on 14 August 2025.

In a belated report by the PCG, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Lubang received a call at 12 p.m. from the Philippine National Police-Maritime Group (PNP MARIG) regarding a local fisherman who retrieved floating debris.

The debris is allegedly linked to the Long March 7A rocket launch conducted by the PRC between 15 and 17 July 2025. CGSS Lubang immediately coordinated with Barangay Binacas and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Lubang Sub-Office to carry out a retrieval operation.

Authorities confirmed the debris’ presence and interviewed the fisherman, a 50-year-old resident of Barangay Binacas, who discovered the object while fishing one nautical mile off Barangay Bonbon.

The debris, measuring about 10 feet wide and 14 feet long, was made of alloy material and bore the PRC flag. The team secured the debris at Sitio Balaguin, Barangay Maliig, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, for safekeeping and proper disposition.

The PCG continues to remind fishermen, coastal community residents, and other maritime stakeholders to immediately report sightings of unusual floating objects to the nearest Coast Guard unit for appropriate action.
