After three days online, Indian travel agency EaseMyTrip has quietly replaced its erroneous Philippine travel guide with a simplified graphic.
The original post featured an infographic of a Philippine map with misplaced tourist spots—placing Coron in Northern Luzon, Batanes in Palawan, among other errors. The inaccurate map quickly drew backlash from Filipino netizens, who called out the misinformation, while others speculated it was a deliberate “marketing strategy.”
“Please verify the locations,” one comment read. Another user wrote, “What a marketing strategy to make this post famous!”
Despite a small disclaimer at the bottom of the image, critics said the post misrepresented the country’s geography and misled the public.
The guide was intended for Indian travelers visiting the Philippines visa-free, following the recently strengthened strategic partnership between the two nations.
DAILY TRIBUNE has reached out to the Department of Tourism for comment but has yet to receive a response as of writing.
