Two new Changan models are raising the bar for how far electric vehicles can go on Philippine roads. The Nevo Q05 and Hunter K50, both unveiled during the Manila International Auto Show in April, now hold the longest comprehensive EV ranges in their respective classes.
With a 160-year history and R&D centers in China, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US, the brand has built a global network focused on innovation. Changan is not new to pushing its limits. These latest models are meant to address one of the biggest hurdles to EV adoption. Range anxiety.
The Nevo Q05 is a plug-in hybrid SUV that has a pure electric range of 115 kilometers and a total driving range of 1,215 kilometers based on NEDC standards. It carries an 18.4 kWh battery, which is bigger than most in its category, and offers PHEV, BEV, REV and iEM drive models.
In addition, the Q05 comes packed with convenience and safety tech. It has a panoramic sunroof with rain sensor, park assist that can guide the car in and out of spaces, a dashcam, memory driver’s seat, 360-degree camera, autonomous emergency braking, and rollover mitigation.
Exterior highlights include LED headlights and taillights, heated side mirrors, a power tailgate, and follow-me-home lights. Prices start at P1,259,000 for the SE and P1,449,000 for the iD.
For those who prefer something tougher, the Nevo Hunter K50 is the world’s first range-extended electric pickup and the first four-wheel drive EV pickup sold in the Philippines.
It runs on a 2.0L turbocharged BlueCore range extender paired with dual electric motors, producing a pure electric range of 131 kilometers and a total range of 1,031 kilometers. Its 31.18 kWh battery is one of the largest in its segment.
The Hunter K50 is aimed at drivers who spend time both on- and off-road. It offers ten driving modes, from Eco and Comfort to Sand, Mud and Off-road.
The 4x4 version adds front and rear electronic differential locks, stability control, emergency brake warning, and other safety features. Prices are P1,699,000 for the 4x2 and P1,970,000 for the 4x4.
Changan says both models are part of its push to offer more sustainable mobility options in the country. By combining extended range with a long list of features, the brand hopes to make electric-powered travel more practical for Filipino motorists.
