PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija — A P96-million road rehabilitation project in front of the Municipal Hall in Barangay Sinasahan is expected to significantly improve travel for residents and commuters in this town.

Implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office, the project covers a 685.6-lineal-meter section of the San Leonardo-Peñaranda Road.

District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan said the reconstruction involves replacing the old 0.23-meter-thick concrete with a more durable 0.28-meter-thick layer, designed to improve both strength and ride quality. The project also includes the application of over 2,000 lineal meters of asphalt overlay.

“To ensure the safety of motorists, we installed thermoplastic pavement markings and placed road warning signs along the rehabilitated section,” Panaligan said. “This makes the road safer and more efficient for daily commuters and local transport.”

OIC–Assistant District Engineer Leonora Cruz highlighted the road’s importance in connecting residents to essential services and economic activity. She said the upgraded road will particularly benefit farmers, workers, and small business owners who rely on the route for their daily livelihood.

“By upgrading this key road section, travel has become smoother and safer for the public, while also supporting local economic activity — contributing to the continued development of the municipality,” Cruz added.

The project was funded under the 2025 national budget through the DPWH’s Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps program.
