The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has seized around P1 million worth of counterfeit Cocomelon candy products during a raid on a warehouse in Tondo, Manila.
In a statement, the NBI said agents confiscated the items on 30 July during the service of a search warrant against MBK Distribution, Inc. The seized goods included 111 boxes of Cocomelon Tattoo Gum and 200 boxes of Cocomelon Long Mallows.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by Orion Support, Inc. (OSI) on behalf of its client, Treasure Studios, Inc., the registered trademark owner of Cocomelon.
Following surveillance, the NBI secured a search warrant from the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24, which led to the raid and confiscation of the counterfeit products.
The agency said charges for violation of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act No. 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, will be filed against the owners of MBK Distribution.
