The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) – Laguna District Office (NBI-LAGDO) and the NBI-Rizal District Office (NBI-RIZDO) led by NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago arrested a person involved in selling expired food products in Taytay, Rizal.
The suspect was identified as April Rodriguez Fernando who will be slapped with violation of Article 40(g) in relation to Art. 23(a)(7) of R.A. No. 7394, otherwise known as the “Consumer Act of the Philippines.”
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by the authorized representative of Universal Robina Corporation (URC) regarding expired/adulterated URC food products that were being sold at a store and being kept at a warehouse in Taytay, Rizal.
Subsequent surveillance and test-buy operations conducted confirmed the veracity of the information.
On 09 October 2025, NBI-LAGDO, augmented by NBI-RIZDO, implemented a Search Warrant at a warehouse located in Brgy. Dolores, Taytay, Rizal.
Afterward, an entrapment operation ensued at Aiden Louise Store, resulting in the arrest of Fernando, who was caught in the act of selling the products.
Following the suspect's arrest, another implementation of Search Warrant was conducted at the said store, which resulted in the seizure of two truckloads of expired/adulterated URC products.
Suspect was presented for inquest proceedings before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Rizal on 10 October 2025.
Santiago commended the joint operatives of LAGDO and RIZDO for acting swiftly, as these food products, which are popular among children, pose serious health hazards to the consuming public.
