‘Split brain’ characters feted with 2025 Emmy nominations

The Apple TV+ series Severance is leading the 2025 Emmys with 27 nominations.

The show follows a group of biotech company Lumon Industries employees who have undergone “severance,” a surgical procedure that erases their memories of the outside world while at work; they will also have no recollection of their profession once they’re back to their personal lives.

Severance is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, while its lead star Adam Scott is up for Outstanding Drama Actor. Co-star Britt Lower is leading the Outstanding Drama Actress category.

HBO Max’s The Penguin followed with 24 nominations, while The Studio and The White Lotus are tied with 23 nominations each.

The 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, to be broadcast live on CBS on 14 September, will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
