The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced on Friday the upcoming launch of a new reintegration initiative aimed at supporting persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) upon their release. The project will be piloted in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
In a statement, BuCor said the initiative — called the Blue and Red Ribbon Project — will be launched in Barangay Iwahig, which will serve as one of the project’s pioneer communities.
On 8 July, the External Affairs Section of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm conducted a field visit to Barangay Iwahig to prepare for the project’s implementation.
Inspired by Singapore’s successful Yellow Ribbon Project, the Blue and Red Ribbon Project is designed to promote second chances for former offenders and help them reintegrate into society.
“The project aims to combat stigma and foster community support for the reintegration of PDLs,” BuCor stated. “It will promote public awareness through knowledge-sharing, advocacy, and partnership-building.”
The program is part of BuCor’s broader efforts to promote restorative justice and sustainable rehabilitation for former inmates.
