Passenger nabbed at NAIA with improvised firearm
A 40-year-old passenger bound for Cotabato was arrested on Monday morning after authorities discovered an improvised firearm during a routine x-ray screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2, the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported on 8 July.
According to the PNP-AVSEGROUP, the firearm was detected at the baggage make-up area, concealed inside a tire interior and wrapped in plastic.
It was identified as an improvised firearm capable of firing .22 caliber rounds. The passenger failed to present any legal documentation for the weapon.
She reportedly claimed the firearm was sent by her sibling.
In a statement, the AVSEGROUP confirmed that there have been no other similar incidents reported at NAIA since 1 July.
The passenger was arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and is currently in the custody of NAIA Police Station 2 pending further investigation and documentation.
