A 21-year-old man tagged as a Street Level Individual (SLI) in the drug watchlist was arrested Monday afternoon, 7 July, after a motorcycle mishap led to the discovery of illegal drugs in his possession.
The suspect, a resident of Brgy. 2, Poblacion, Currimao, was driving a red TMX 125 motorcycle along the national highway in Brgy. 20, Paratong when he encountered police officers conducting an intelligence-driven mobile patrol. Sensing their presence, the suspect allegedly attempted to avoid the authorities by swerving into the opposite lane, but lost control and crashed on the shoulder of the road.
As police officers rushed to assist, they witnessed him throw a black sunglasses case into a grassy area. Upon checking the case, they discovered two sachets of suspected shabu weighing about one gram, along with several open plastic sachets. A further search also yielded a ziplock bag containing approximately ten grams of dried leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be marijuana. He tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended.
The inventory of the recovered evidence was conducted on-site in the presence of barangay officials, investigators, and a DAILY TRIBUNE correspondent. Authorities estimate the combined value of the seized illegal drugs at ₱18,000. Charges for violation of Section 5 (Transportation of Dangerous Drugs) under Article II of Republic Act 9165 are being prepared against the suspect.
