Baste Duterte takes oath as Davao City Vice Mayor

Davao City – Sebastian “Baste” Duterte took oath as Davao City’s Vice Mayor in grand rites held on the afternoon of 27 June at the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) Session Hall.

The young Duterte was joined by his family and mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman Duterte. His sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, was also present to witness her brother take oath along with the newly elected officials and representatives of the first, second, and third districts.

Duterte's oath was administered by Associate Justice Jill Rose Jaugan-Lo.

“We are here to honor the trust that our fellow Dabawenyos have given us. We owe this renewed mandate to everyone who believes in transparency, accountability, peace and security. Despite facing the administration’s machinery in the last elections, Davao City emerged victorious. Money did not win, principles did,” Duterte said in his speech.

He also addressed his fellow public servants to never forget the will of the people who brought them here. He reminded them to remain proactive and always address community concerns swiftly and productively.

As for the Dabawenyos, Duterte reminded them to continue their cooperation to move toward a productive future, as "we all know our strengths and weaknesses."

“Government cannot do it alone. We need you to do your part in nation building,” he added.

Also present during the ceremonies were Senators Bato dela Rosa and Christopher “Bong” Go, along with members of the Duter10 election candidates.

Earlier Friday morning, Vice President Sara Duterte also led the inauguration of newly elected City Mayor Toto Reyes of the Island Garden City of Samal, along with the city’s other newly elected officials.
