The Reyes family, who owns Starhorse Shipping Lines, a domestic vessel company that operates in the provinces of Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon, is now wanted for syndicated estafa, owing the complainant P25 million.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Vincent Dominic Reyes, his sister Cristina Reyes, and their mother Merian Reyes, which was released on 28 April by Judge Pamela Torres Chavez-Dizon of Lipa City RTC Branch 13.
The arrest warrant stemmed from a complaint filed for Reyes's violation of Batas Pambansa 22 (Anti-Bouncing Check Law) on 15 October 2024 against the respondents by complainant Annaliza Cabrera.
Last year, Cabrera disclosed in a statement that the case was a result of the bouncing of a check issued by the two in her favor, worth P25 million.
Cabrera, in her affidavit, disclosed that the amount of the said check is the money allegedly taken from her by Merian Reyes for a transaction that did not push through.
Vincent Reyes is running for Mayor of San Narciso, Quezon, while his daughter Ma. Kristina Victoria Reyes is also running for Board Member for the 3rd District of Quezon Province.
Starhorse Shipping Lines earlier tried to enter the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), but it was botched as PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial told DAILY TRIBUNE that Starhorse failed to meet some crucial requirements that would make them eligible to purchase the franchise of Terrafirma.
DAILY TRIBUNE has reached out to Vincent Reyes for comment but has yet to receive a response.
