Porac, Pampanga — Vice Mayor Budoy Tamayo assumed the role of acting mayor on Saturday following the dismissal of Mayor Jaime “Jing” Capil over a gross negligence case, ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Vice Mayor Tamayo took his oath of office before Association of Barangay Captains President Joel Capil. Tamayo said he will continue the delivery of basic services in Porac without disruption.
Capil was found guilty of gross neglect of duty in connection with the operation of an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Porac.
The Ombudsman’s dismissal order also includes Councilors Rafael "RC" Canlapan, Jovy Venzon, and Adrian "Papay" Carreon.
Aside from dismissal from service, the Ombudsman ordered the cancellation of eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
Despite the order from the Office of the Ombudsman, Capil said he will continue his reelection campaign, asserting his belief in "true justice."
In a social media post on 4 April 2025, Capil stated, "Bagamat labis ko po itong ikinalungkot… buo po ang aking loob na ito ay haharapin natin."
He added that he would pursue legal remedies and rallied support from his constituents, vowing to press on with his bid under Team Bayung Porac.
