Philippine National Police Chief (PNP) Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended local police Friday for the swift arrest of a provincial security officer who allegedly shot and killed his wife outside the Ynares Center in Barangay San Roque.

Antipolo police officers, working with members of the Rizal Provincial Government Security Group, arrested the suspect shortly after the shooting at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Responding officers recovered the firearm allegedly used in the attack.

Investigators said the couple had met earlier that morning at the local Human Resources Office to discuss financial support arrangements for their children.

Following the meeting, the suspect allegedly shot his wife multiple times in front of the venue. Emergency personnel rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Nartatez ordered investigating units to construct an air-tight criminal case using forensic evidence, ballistic findings, and eyewitness statements.

“We commend the responding police officers for their prompt action that led to the suspect’s arrest,” Nartatez said. “Our priority now is to ensure a thorough investigation, preserve all available evidence, and pursue justice for the victim in accordance with the law.”

Nartatez cited that the response aligns with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to hold perpetrators of violent crimes accountable regardless of position.

“A firearm entrusted for security must never become an instrument of violence against the very people we are duty-bound to protect,” Nartatez added, offering condolences to the victim’s family and promising a diligent prosecution.
