Caloocan City will implement a shifting schedule in public elementary and junior high schools to mitigate the impact of the dry season's extreme heat.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan announced that face-to-face classes will be conducted in two sessions — morning and afternoon.
Starting Monday, 10 March, at least 44 elementary schools in North and South Caloocan will hold three-hour face-to-face classes.
The first shift will run from 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM, followed by the second shift from 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM.
Antonio Luna, Apolinario Mabini, Bagumbong, Eulogio Rodriguez, Kasarinlan, and Tandang Sora Integrated School will follow different schedules.
From Monday to Thursday, in-person classes will be held from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, while a two-shift schedule will be implemented on Fridays, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Andres Bonifacio, Cecilio Apostol, and Grace Park elementary schools will implement shifts from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the morning and 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the afternoon.
Face-to-face classes for other public secondary high school students will also be split into two different schemes.
“The Caloocan Schools Division Office, school principals, and School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) officials and I have agreed to implement an adjusted face-to-face class schedule,” Malapitan said.
Malapitan added that class suspension will be implemented if PAGASA forecasts an “extreme danger” heat index.
