The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) has awarded P1 million to Pacific Farms Inc. to support its innovative vertical salt farming technology aimed at revitalizing the Philippine salt industry and boosting local production.
The funding, provided through the DoLE Adjustment Measures Program (AMP), will be implemented in two phases: capacity building and the evaluation and application of training. The award was granted on 28 February.
DoLE Undersecretary Carmela Torres emphasized that the initiative reflects the department’s commitment to supporting businesses and workers pursuing innovation and sustainable growth aligned with national development goals.
“Amid challenges facing the Philippine salt industry, Pacific Farms has shown resilience by embracing innovation. Their Vertical Salt Farm Technology accelerates the evaporation process, increases salt yield, and enhances productivity,” Torres said.
She added, “This project is not just about recovery; it’s about transformation. By fostering innovation, Pacific Farms sets an important benchmark for other businesses.”
Torres also highlighted the AMP’s role in providing a safety net for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are vital to the country’s economy.
The project aims to modernize traditional salt production methods, using vertical farming techniques to optimize land use, increase efficiency, and boost production, addressing challenges like fluctuating production rates and dependence on imports.
Through the AMP, DoLE supports MSMEs in enhancing workforce skills, adapting to economic shifts, and exploring new business and employment opportunities.
