The Philippine Army (PA) has introduced a new Strategic Advisory Council (SAC) to assist in its transition toward external security operations and support ongoing modernization initiatives.

In a statement on Friday, Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the SAC held its inaugural meeting on 27 February at the Philippine Army Officers' Clubhouse in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

According to Dema-ala, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy Galido and council members discussed the redefined focus of the advisory body, emphasizing key reforms crucial to the Army’s operational efficiency, organizational effectiveness, and modernization efforts.

“In light of recent global and regional developments, the Army is prioritizing key reforms in Logistics Management, Education and Training, Human Resource, and Healthcare Development,” Dema-ala stated.

The SAC replaces the PA Multi-sectoral Advisory Board (MSAB), which was established in 2011 and played a significant role in the Army’s transformation efforts. The new council aims to enhance engagement and enable members to focus on their strategic advisory roles.

Lt. Gen. Galido expressed confidence that the expertise and guidance of the SAC members will significantly strengthen the Army’s capabilities, ensuring it is prepared to address emerging security threats amid a rapidly evolving landscape.
