Hermosa, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood mitigation structure along the Mabiga River in this town.

The project aims to regulate strong water currents and prevent soil erosion along the riverbanks and adjacent land areas.

District Engineer Erlindo R. Flores Jr. said in a social media post on Saturday that the P72.4-million project, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), is located in Barangay Mabiga and spans 558.09 meters.

It consists of a reinforced concrete slope protection system with an elevated foundation, ensuring structural stability and enhanced flood control.

He added that the project serves as a crucial infrastructure upgrade, minimizing property damage and reducing transportation delays.

“This flood control project is a necessary step in protecting the community and ensuring safer conditions for residents and commuters who experience frequent flooding in the area,” Flores said.

“It will also contribute to local economic growth by preventing transportation disruptions that occur during extreme weather events,” he added.
