The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reaffirmed that the EDSA Busway remains one of the most efficient public road transport systems in Metro Manila.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the DOTr highlighted that the busway project has successfully served over 63 million commuters in 2024, providing safe, fast, and convenient travel.

In 2024, over 63 million commuters enjoyed an efficient travel experience along the EDSA Busway. In January 2025 alone, the busway served more than 5.5 million passengers, averaging 177,000 daily commuters who reached their destinations conveniently, safely, and quickly

The DOTr aims to enhance the EDSA Busway by tapping private sector expertise for both technical and financial improvements.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista is currently waiting for the results of a feasibility study on how to further optimize the system without worsening traffic conditions.

Meanwhile, Secretary Bautista also addressed suggestions to open the bike lanes for shared use with motorcycles, stating that the proposal requires further study to balance safety and efficiency.

The EDSA Busway continues to play a crucial role in Metro Manila’s public transport modernization, providing a safer, faster, and more reliable commuting option for millions of Filipinos.
