Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, was named first runner-up in the Gender-Responsive Marketplace category at the 2024 Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards. The prestigious event took place on 27 November 2024, recognizing the company's efforts in promoting gender equality and inclusivity.
Meralco’s #Mbrace Diversity and Inclusion Program stood out for its groundbreaking initiatives to foster gender balance and ensure equal opportunities in both the workplace and marketplace.
“This recognition affirms Meralco’s commitment to advancing a gender-balanced workforce and inclusive marketplace. It inspires us to further champion diversity and to continue building a brighter and more equitable future for our employees, customers, and communities,” said Raymond Ravelo, Meralco’s first vice president and chief sustainability officer.
The WEPs, established in 2010 by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, serve as a global framework for organizations striving for an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future. This year’s biennial awards received over 1,500 applications from more than 1,000 companies across 21 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, underscoring the significance of Meralco's achievement.
