President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) results would affect the midterm elections and the national polls.
In a media interview in Ilocos Norte, Marcos explained that the results of the barangay and SK elections will have a significant impact on the political landscape of the Philippines.
Marcos pointed out that politicians can count on the barangay officials to deliver votes.
"If you're running for mayor and (most) of the barangay officials are on your side and are supporting you, it's a significant advantage," Marcos said.
"That's why the results of this election are so crucial," he said.
.
Marcos also urged the public to vote wisely in the barangay and SK elections. "It is important to elect competent and committed leaders who will serve the people well," he said.
The barangay is the smallest and most basic unit of government in the Philippines. It is the primary planning and implementing unit of government policies and programs. The barangay officials are also responsible for delivering basic services to the people, such as peace and order, health, and sanitation.
The Sangguniang Kabataan, on the other hand, is the youth council of the barangay. According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), individuals between 18 and "24 years and zero days" old are the only ones eligible to run for any SK position.
The SK is responsible for representing the youth in the barangay council and for implementing programs and activities for the benefit of the youth.
