Pain is the best motivator to good acting, said Hollywood coach Ivanna Chubbuck.
The technique is being taught at the Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops headed by Rahyan Carlos.
"We are not teaching emotions as a result… (but) to give objectives to empower a goal. We are trying to give them objectives, in such a way that everybody can use their pain when it comes to acting," Carlos said.
Carlos, trained by Chubbuck herself, has mentored Christian Bables, Joshua Garcia, Jane de Leon, Coco Martin, Julia Barretto, Jake Cuenca, Liza Diño-Seguerra, Anna Luna, EJ Falcon, Alora Sasam, Ynna Asistio, Roco Nacino, Sandino Martin, Arjo Atayde, Paulo Avelino, Joshua Garcia, Janella Salvador, and Charlie Dizon.
Chubbuck herself has made a name in Hollywood, having trained the likes of Halley Berry, Charlize Theron, Beyonce Knowles, Ian Somelhalder, Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sylvestre Stallone, Jared Leto, Gal Gadot, and Judith Light, among others.
Carlos held a hybrid face-to-face workshop in Toronto on 14, 15 and 22 December in partnership with Rechelle Everden and Chalen Lazerna of AMP Studios Canada.
Participants acquired the same training as the actors of ABS-CBN and Star Magic, Carlos said.
"The purpose of the training is not just acting, it's also a way for the artists to survive the pandemic. Rather than ma-depress sila, they turn to their passion. Week after week, they do scenes in their class over Zoom. Doon pa lang, para sa akin panalo na ang workshop," he added.
In June 2020, Star Magic had a soft launch of its workshops online. Four months later it held its first online workshop for participants in Canada, also in partnership with AMP.
