ZAMBOANGA CITY — Five members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to soldiers in Indanan, Sulu and turned over their respective firearms as a gesture of their sincere desire to return to the folds of the law.

Joint Task Force Sulu commander Major Gen William Gonzales disclosed that the five former ASG gunmen surrendered to soldiers of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade at Camp Bud Datu, Barangay Tagbak in Indanan on Thursday.

They were identified as Bensar Majan alias Bunso, Romil Paraja, Yasher Jamalul, Jimrasil Isnaji and Roger Kahan — who were followers of five different ASG sub-leaders operating in Sulu.

Majan said he was with the ASG for about five years and was apprehended after the group disbanded. He was jailed for five years and was only released when his mother was able to pay the bail bond for his temporary liberty.
