CAVITE CITY, Cavite — The heat index in Cavite City is forecast to reach 39 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 November, placing the area under the extreme caution category, according to the latest heat index monitoring report released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) CALABARZON.

The report, issued Friday evening, 6 November, showed that Sangley Point in Cavite City recorded a heat index of 39°C on Friday, following readings of 42°C on 2 November and 40°C on 3 November.

Los Baños, Laguna is also expected to experience a heat index of 39°C over the weekend, while Infanta, Quezon and Tanauan City, Batangas are forecast to reach 38°C.

In Quezon province, Mulanay is expected to register 36°C on Saturday and 38°C on Sunday, while Tayabas City is forecast to experience 34°C on both days.

Meanwhile, Tanay, Rizal is expected to record a lower heat index of 28°C throughout the weekend.

Under PAGASA's heat index classification, temperatures ranging from 33°C to 41°C fall under extreme caution, where prolonged exposure to heat may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Heat index readings between 42°C and 51°C are classified as dangerous, with continued exposure increasing the risk of heat stroke.

Residents, particularly outdoor workers, children and senior citizens, are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.

The heat index measures the temperature felt by the human body when air temperature and relative humidity are combined.

The RDRRMC monitoring report was based on data from the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA).
