A Google Cloud outage disrupted several banking and financial services in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, 20 October, affecting digital banking platform Revolut and other providers.

Google confirmed technical issues in its London cloud region but did not disclose the cause. The company advised affected customers to consider moving their services to other regions where feasible.

Revolut reported disruptions across multiple services but assured customers that their money and data remained safe. A source familiar with the situation attributed the disruption to Google Cloud.

Lloyds Banking Group also acknowledged problems with some online services, although customers could still access its mobile banking app.

Budgeting app Emma reported several hours of downtime, citing the Google Cloud outage that began around 7 a.m. London time.

“This is a technical outage, not a security issue,” Emma said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, users reported problems accessing HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland services, according to outage-monitoring website Downdetector. The banks had not confirmed the cause of those reports.
