Award-winning actor Piolo Pascual has found a deeper purpose in promoting sustainable energy after an unexpected crisis at his resort in Mabini, Batangas, exposed the challenges of living without a reliable electricity supply.

What began as a natural disaster eventually became a personal awakening for the Kapamilya star, who now believes that investing in renewable energy is an important step toward protecting Filipino homes, businesses, and communities from unexpected power disruptions.

During his contract-signing event as the newest brand ambassador of renewable energy company Marstek on October 7, Pascual revealed that a recent landslide in his hometown had damaged electrical posts, leaving his beachfront resort without electricity.

The incident created a difficult situation for the actor and his resort operations, especially after local authorities informed him that restoring the damaged infrastructure could take several weeks.

“Just last week, we experienced a disaster in Mabini, Batangas, where I'm from. There had a landslide, and since I have a property there, a resort, the electricity was cut because yung mga poste na itong bahaan. So, we were told by the LGU that it'll take probably two more weeks until they're able to put up posts,” Pascual shared.

Although his nearby residence was spared from the interruption, his resort remained without electricity at the time of the interview.

The experience gave the actor a firsthand understanding of how vulnerable businesses can become when their operations depend entirely on the conventional power grid.

For Pascual, the consequences go beyond inconvenience. Without electricity, businesses risk losing refrigerated supplies, communication systems become difficult to maintain, and everyday operations can come to a standstill.

“And that's when I actually realized the value of energy—if you don't have electricity, you're dependent on the grid,” he explained.

He also emphasized how quickly an ordinary situation can become overwhelming when alternative sources of power are unavailable.

“Kung wala kang generator, kung wala kang battery, wala kang backup, wala kang kuryente. And lahat ng food may spoil, pati yung mga kailangan mo na may charge, kailangan mo ng electricity. You're hopeless, you're helpless,” the actor admitted.

A new advocacy beyond entertainment

The unfortunate incident strengthened Pascual's commitment to his latest endorsement partnership with Marstek, a company specializing in solar energy technology and battery storage solutions.

While celebrity endorsements often highlight the commercial appeal of a product, Pascual's latest partnership has taken on a more personal significance.

His experience in Batangas has made him increasingly conscious of the importance of having alternative energy systems that can provide electricity when traditional power services are interrupted.

For the actor, renewable energy represents an opportunity for Filipino families and entrepreneurs to become more self-sufficient while preparing for emergencies.

“You know what, we are entering a time wherein we have to be independent in terms of our consumption of electricity,” he said.

Pascual also hopes to change the perception that renewable energy technology is exclusively for wealthy households or large corporations.

He believes consumers should explore available systems according to their individual needs and financial capabilities.

“It's not just for those who have money, but it's a practical choice. It has a lot of options; it has a lot of choices to choose from,” he explained.

Beyond residential properties, the actor sees considerable potential for renewable energy solutions in resorts, agricultural businesses, commercial establishments, and other operations that require a dependable electricity supply.

His own resort's predicament illustrates why backup power systems can be especially valuable in areas vulnerable to natural disasters and infrastructure damage.

However, solar installations generally require compatible battery storage and appropriate backup configurations to continue supplying electricity during a grid outage.

Preparing Filipino households for the future

As electricity expenses and concerns about power reliability continue to influence household and business decisions, Pascual believes more Filipinos will eventually recognize the long-term importance of alternative energy sources.

His advocacy now centers on encouraging people to think beyond their immediate electricity requirements and consider how they can prepare for unexpected disruptions.

For the actor, the benefits of energy independence are not limited to convenience. They also involve protecting livelihoods, maintaining essential services, and helping families become more resilient during emergencies.

“For me, it will become a necessity for every household,” Pascual declared.

The Batangas experience has given Pascual a meaningful story to share as he begins his journey with Marstek.

More than lending his celebrity status to a renewable energy brand, the actor is using a personal setback to encourage greater awareness of energy security and disaster preparedness.

And while the restoration of electricity at his resort remained uncertain during his interview, one thing had become clear to Pascual: having access to dependable power is something people should never take for granted.

For the veteran actor, the experience has transformed renewable energy from a promising technological option into a practical investment in a safer, more prepared, and more sustainable future.
