Arms cache, war materiel seized in Zamboanga del Sur


The 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army, recovered an arms cache and other war materiel at Purok 3, Barangay Dalapan in the town of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, on 6 October 2026.
The recovered armed cache and war materiel were revealed during the continuous custodial debriefing of Florencio T. Sayamba, also known as “Jay-R/ Bebot/ Rico,” who was identified as a former Commanding Officer of a Yunit Militia of the defunct GF KARA, WMRPC.
Sayamba was apprehended by the unit during pursuit operations at Purok 5, Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, on 18 June 2026, and is presently under the custody of the Pagadian City Jail, Lenienza, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Recovered items included a carbine rifle, an Ingram firearm, a .38 revolver, two hand grenades, a commercial radio with four antennas, and approximately 20 meters of detonating cord/stick wire. The recovered firearms and war materiel were subsequently turned over to Headquarters 53IB for proper disposition and safekeeping.
The recovery reflects the continuing efforts of the 53IB to secure remaining firearms and war materiel and contribute to maintaining peace and security in the communities of Zamboanga del Sur.
