Aoanan elected Kabalens International president

Engineer Virgilio ’Virgil’ Aoanan has been elected president of Kabalens International (KI) for 2026-2029, as the organization prepares for the centennial of Mary Help of Christians Seminary (MHCS) in Binmaley, Pangasinan, in 2029.
Aoanan was elected during the 2026 Kabalens International Reunion held 25 to 27 September at Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina. His nomination by KI member Melandrew T. Velasco was seconded by former KI president Dr. Jose Sibal and unanimously approved by members present.
He succeeds KI president Dr. Melchor de Guzman.
A civil and structural engineer, Aoanan founded VCA Engineers in 2003 and has more than four decades of professional experience in Southern California. His work has included site planning, stormwater management, seismic retrofit and construction administration for airports, schools, hospitals, parks and public works projects.
The reunion also served as a venue for initial discussions on KI’s participation in the MHCS centennial.
Velasco proposed forming a “Committee of One” composed of KI past presidents to assist Aoanan in preparations for the 2029 celebration.
Planned priorities include reconnecting with alumni, documenting the history and contributions of Kabalens, remembering deceased members, strengthening ties with MHCS and identifying ways overseas alumni can support the centennial and the seminary’s continuing mission.
