Search goes on for missing 79-year old male in Atok




ATOK, Benguet-- Search and rescue teams in Atok, Benguet entered the 5th day of operations on Sept. 15, 2026 to locate a 79-year-old man who has been missing since late part of August.
The missing individual who was identified as Rogelio Bengyed Sawey, was reported missing from his locked home in Botiao, Barangay Cattubo, Atok. Sawey, a native of Capinitan, Sabangan, Mountain Province, left behind his personal belongings and a backpack he reportedly prepared for a trip to La Trinidad.
Early search efforts around the immediate vicinity and inquiries with family members failed to establish his location.
Reinforcements from Sabangan, including military reservists, arrived today to assist local authorities with the operation. The expanded search area now covers at least a 500-meter radius around Sawey's house. Personnel involved in the operation include officers from the Atok Municipal Police Station (MPS), firefighters from the Atok Fire Station, municipal government workers, and community volunteers from Barangays Cattubo and Paoay.
Sawey stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs roughly 55 kilograms, and has a slim build with a fair complexion. He was last believed to be wearing black slacks, a brown jacket, a black T-shirt, and rain boots. He frequently wears a lanyard for his house keys around his neck.
